Violist and conductor graduated from Escola de Música of UFRJ, with a Master's degree and Doctorate in Musicology from Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO). He studied in Brazil with Roberto Duarte and David Machado. In Argentina, he took a professional improvement course with Guillermo Scarabino at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. In 1994 he was the winner of the National Conducting Competition of Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional, after which he went on to conduct the main Brazilian orchestras. He was assistant conductor of Orquestra Sinfônica do Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro between 2000 and 2007. As a musicologist he published the books "A música na Capela Real e Imperial do Rio de Janeiro", published by Academia Brasileira de Música in 2005 and "A música na Corte de D. João VI "by Editora Martins Fontes de São Paulo, in 2008. He is a professor of conducting and orchestral practice at Escola de Música of UFRJ, of which he was director for two successive terms, between 2007 and 2015. He is a member of Academia Brasileira de Música.
