XVII Harpsichord Week publishes program
The UFRJ School of Music, the UFRJ Graduate Program in Music (PPGM) and the UFRJ Professional Graduate Program in Music (PROMUS) will hold in October the seventeenth edition of the Cravo Week – the only event of its kind in Brazil. Created by Professor Marcelo Fagerlande, the Week, which this year takes place from October 5 to 9 through a virtual platform due to the risks of the pandemic, promotes the meeting of Brazilian record players and experts, while offering a wider audience the opportunity to learn about the instrument’s repertoire.
Round tables with invited teachers will be maintained, as usual, and now interested through submission of papers for evaluation may also participate in specific sessions. Due to limitations, it will not be possible to hold the traditional recitals with students.
In the 2020 edition, themes such as “Initiation to the harpsichord: children and the elderly” and “Brazilian teachers: teaching and research” will be discussed, among others. Canadian harpsichordist Kenneth Gilbert, pioneer researcher of baroque music, will be honored at the opening table of the event, which has the confirmed participation of Olivier Baumont, from the National Conservatory of Music, Paris; Reinhard von Nagel, from the Von Nagel Instrument Billing Studio, Paris; and Rachelle Taylor, McGill University, Montreal. A promoter of French Baroque composers such as François Couperin and Jean-Henri d’Anglebert, but also one of the interpreters of the German Johann Sebastian Bach, Gilbert died at 88 in April.
The virtual presence of Maria de Lourdes Cutolo, Buenos Aires; Maria Lucia Barros, Conservatorio Erik Satie, Paris; Maria Eugenia Sacco, Tatuí Conservatory; Ana Cecilia Tavares, Brasilia School of Music; Helena Jank, UNICAMP; Ilton Wjuniski, Claude Debussy Conservatory, Paris; Claudio Ribeiro, Real Conservatory of The Hague; Mayra Pereira, UFJF; Maria Aida Barroso, UFPE; and Profa. Beatriz Pavan, Gustavo Ritter Institute.
The event is coordinated by professors Marcelo Fagerlande (UFRJ) and Mayra Pereira (UFJF).
Those interested in participating in the Week should register for free through the link on the digital form. The inscriptions for oral communication presentation and consequent publication in the Annals of the event will go until September 25th; for listeners they will go until October 3rd. The access to the virtual room will be sent by e-mail on the 4th.
